Janet and Richard extend a warm welcome
to stay in their home, Footsteps.
Situated in a delightful location, we are a family operation
run entirely by ourselves. Cwmbach is a small hamlet, on the
outskirts of Glasbury-on -Wye, located where the main A438
road into Wales crosses the River Wye, we are within minutes
walk of the Wye Valley Footpath. It is a very popular centre
for a wide range of outdoor pursuits including canoeing, cycling,
pony trekking, caving, climbing, and of course walking
Much of the farmland around is part of The Maesllwch Estate
and has been in the current owners family since 1750. The
castle was largely demolished in 1951, although a part was
repaired and preserved and in this the family continue to
live. Opposite Footsteps is All Saints Church, which was erected
in 1882 by the Maesllwch Estate labourers and craftsmen with
the assistance of local talent.
Glasbury is also only four miles from Hay on Wye, the internationally
renowned Town of Books. which has more second-hand book shops
than any town in Britain and holds a Festival of Literature
in May.
We started Marches
walkS in 1997 to provide small groups and individuals with the
opportunity to walk in the unspoilt Marches, free from concerns
related to accommodation, transportation and route finding
so that you can enjoy the beauty of the surroundings to the
full. We walk all over the Counties of Hereford, Radnor, Brecon,
Monmouth and venture into Salop when the fancy takes us. We
use well established routes such as the WVW, ODP, and The
Mortimer Trail. The whole area is basically hill country with
the Black Mountains/Brecon Beacons rising to almost 900 metres
at the pinnacle. Otherwise the hills are more rolling in nature
which creates a beautiful landscape of secluded and often
wooded valleys harbouring delightful rivers which are home
to such species as Otter, Water Vole, etc.
We can accommodate up to six people in our three double en-suite
bedrooms
